Homemade Junk 3 named one of STL's Top Ten Releases of 2011!

Homemade Junk 3 was named one of St. Louis' Top 10 Hip Hop Releases in 2011 by KDHX!

At the heart of Indyground Entertainment is DJ Mahf, nominated for "Best DJ" in the upcoming SLUM Fest. In Homemade Junk 3, Mahf crams in a plethora of clever mashups and remixes using familiar tracks and top-shelf turntable skills. In "Steddy Persistence Ain't Classy," Kansas City rappers Steddy P and the group Ces Cru lend their voices over heavy synths to the pumped-up track. In "Turbo Shut 'Em Down," Mahf adds a dubstep flair to a classic Public Enemy with admirable taste. A very entertaining collection made by a St. Louis favorite.

MAHF named "Best Hip Hop DJ" in 2011 Best of St. Louis Awards!

MAHF named Writer's & Reader's Choice for "Best Hip Hop DJ" in 2011 Riverfront Times Best of St. Louis Awards!

First things first: DJ Mahf is not "just another DJ." He proved himself a bona fide turntablist when he went head-to-head with some of the nation's best DJs for the 2010 Red Bull Thre3style Competition — where he took the St. Louis title. He's also shown that he's a capable producer with his mixtape series Homemade Junk and Press Play at Night. And when he's not out touring with Earthworms or Steddy P, he makes time to spin records all over town, most famously at one of the area's longest-running weeklies, Mass Appeal at Atomic Cowboy.

Write-Ups for the 2011 RFT Music Awards

Nominated for 2 awards in this year's RFT Music Awards. Here are the official write-ups:

Mass Appeal for "Best Residency"

DJ Mahf's Mass Appeal has held down its spot at Atomic Cowboy for years. His work with Earthworms and Steddy P prove he's more than just a party-starter; he's as capable a technical DJ as they come. There's not as much wizardry at Mass Appeal. The goal is to get people dancing, obviously, and Mahf's knowledge of deep-cut hip-hop, funk, soul and plenty more make him well qualified for that particular task. After spending most of the spring on an interstate tour with Steddy P in support of its third collaborative album, Mahf is back at Atomic Cowboy just in time for the summer jam season. (KM)

Earthworms for "Best Hip Hop Group"

This hip-hop quartet — including MCs Kama, Mathias, Black Patrick and DJ Mahf — comprises well-known solo talents, but together they prove there's strength in numbers, and never more so than on the group's latest release, 2010's Midnight at the Capricorn. Though the men give nods to St. Louis in their songs, the group has proven that spot-on scratching, tight vocals and unrelenting energy can grab fans far beyond this river town's banks: They've played Austin's South by Southwest, Hollywood's House of Blues and even hopped around the Continent, performing at military bases. IGE-024

What Happened Tomorrow, the new free album by Steddy P and DJ Mahf is a farewell record in a sense, rooted in sample based production with the duo's own contemporary approach. As with the duo's previous projects, it's Steddy on the rhymes and Mahf on the tables, but a sense of maturity and growth mark this release as a staple in the Midwest indie rap circuit. From the breakbeat party to the introspective artsy landscape, it's evident the sound is expanding. Steddy and Mahf never disappoint, weaving in and out of several genres of Hip Hop with the ease only a veteran group would possess.
